OAKLAND — Law-enforcement officers from across the country and mourners from throughout the region packed Oracle Arena to the rafters Friday, as the city and nation said a heavy-hearted goodbye to four officers killed in the line of duty last Saturday.
The funeral service for Sgts. Mark Dunakin, 40, of Pleasanton, Erv Romans, 43, of Danville, Daniel Sakai, 35, of Castro Valley, and Officer John Hege, 41, of Concord, was attended by the state's highest elected officials, and came at the end of perhaps the saddest week in the history of the police department.
