The Fifth Annual Raider Nation Bonfire
Raider News:
The Raiders worked out veteran offensive lineman Andre Gurode on Friday.Gurode, 34, started 127 games for the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens from 2002-11.
The Raiders waived cornerback / kick returner Coye Francies and linebacker Travis Goethel on Tuesday.According to the NFL’s official transactions, Francies was waived with a “failure to disclose physical condition” designation. Francies, 26, led the Raiders in kickoff-return yardage (475) and kickoff returns (20) in 2012.
Raiders signed both there top two picks this week getting everyone into camp.
First-round draft pick D.J. Hayden still has a ways to go before he can turn it loose all the way. However, he is well enough to be on the field and taking part in every activity at the Raiders training camp.
The Raiders kicked off the training camp portion of their season Friday, with coach Dennis Allen and his players thrilled to be back in action and one day closer to the regular-season opener.
Second-round draft pick Menelik Watson, second-year linebacker Miles Burris and veteran defensive tackle Pat Sims didn’t take part in practice Friday.
Quarterback Terrelle Pryor had a pass intercepted by cornerback Michael Jenkins early in practice.
Rookie quarterback Tyler Wilson’s first training camp practice is one he would rather forget. A
Cornerback Joselio Hanson and safety Reggie Smith also registered interceptions. In other drills, Wilson made a handful of nice throws and showed nice zip on his passes.
Joshua Cribbs practiced as a member of the Raiders for the first time since he signed a contract earlier this year. He still was recovering from a knee injury when he joined the Raiders.
Second-year player Lucas Nix got the first call at left guard with the first-team offense. Fellow second-year player Tony Bergstrom has been splitting time with Nix at the position as they battle to see who is going to replace Cooper Carlisle. Jared Veldheer, Stefen Wisniewski, Mike Brisiel and Khalif Barnes manned the four other offensive line spots, from left to right. At one point, Alex Barron replaced Barnes.
Kaluka Maiava was at the weak-side linebacker spot from the outset. Kevin Burnett also received some reps at that spot. It will be interesting to see how that position shakes out once Burris returns. Nick Roach was with the first-team defense in the middle, with Sio Moore at the strong-side linebacker spot.
Receiver Sam McGuffie, an undrafted rookie, also had a rough first day of camp. He dropped two catchable passes during one drill, then collided with safety Chance Casey while attempting to catch a pass on another play.
Porter is wearing No. 31 after now that veteran safety Charles Woodson received No. 24. Porter was assigned No. 24 when he signed with the Raiders. Once Woodson arrived, he pushed for the number he wore during his first stint with the Raiders. At some point, the number was “taken” away from Porter, he said. Woodson said Friday that the fans deserve the credit. “It was a big deal,” Woodson said. “I got the jersey back in large part because of the fans. A big thank you to the fans for that.”
Speaking of Woodson, he said he is confident in rookie D.J. Hayden being a successful cornerback in the NFL because of Hayden’s footwork.Woodson also heard what he was hoping to hear from Hayden during a lengthy conversation with Hayden during the offseason. “I just asked him if he loved football,” Woodson said. “He said that he did. Really, for a young guy, that’s what you’re looking for, just a guy that loves football. We’re all going to make a lot of money once you get into this league. But what happens after you get the money. Do you still love to play the game? That’s the one thing I got from him, he loves football.”
Today’s practice marked the first of attended by season-ticketholders. The Raiders granted all season-ticketholders a chance to sign up for the rights to tickets to one practice.

Answers to The RaiderCast “Question of the week”
Thanks to our friend Ted Dawg we have our question. Raiders are going into camp with 12 Wide Receivers. Cribbs, Criner, Ford, Moore, Streater and Rookies Butler, Jenkins, Vernon and McGuffie are who I am looking to rise to the top. Who do you think will be the Raiders top 3 receivers? Rank 1, 2, and 3 please.
