Safety Tyvon Branch and the Oakland Raiders have agreed to terms on a four-year contract, the team announced Saturday. Branch, a 6-foot, 210-pound veteran from Connecticut, is entering his fifth NFL season.
A Northern California hospital has named its cancer treatment center after Pro Football Hall of Famer Gene Upshaw. The Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center in Truckee, Calif., was opened Tuesday.
When Raiders offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski reports for training camp, his Uncle Steve won’t be there. Pat Kirwan of CBS reports that assistant offensive line coach Steve Wisniewski has cleaned out his office and left the team.
The Raiders traded receiver Louis Murphy to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional seventh-round draft pick, in what amounts to a salary dump Monday. He caught only 15 passes last year and was due to make $1.26 million this season.
Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey pleaded no contest Monday to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge, according to the Contra Costa Times. The plea was in exchange for three years’ probation, three months of DUI classes and fines and court costs.
Each summer since establishing Training Camp in Napa in 1996, the Raiders have invited youth groups, military groups, community groups, booster clubs, sponsors, suite holders, and broadcast partners to enjoy watching the team practice and prepare for the football season. This year, even more fans will be able to visit Training Camp to get an up-close look at the Silver and Black, as the team prepares for an exciting 2012 NFL season. Beginning Friday, July 27 at 10:00 a.m., fans wishing to attend a practice in Napa can visit any Raider Image location and receive two tickets to one practice, while supplies last.
The Raiders report for training camp in Napa on Sunday and they moved a step closer to having all of their players ready to report on Friday. Albert Breer of NFL.com reports that the team has agreed to terms on a four-year deal with guard Tony Bergstrom.
