Former Raiders safety Stuart Schweigert has signed a free-agent contract with Washington, the Redskins announced on Monday.
Former Pro Bowl center Jeremy Newberry, who spent last season with the Oakland Raiders, has signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Chargers.
Running back LaMont Jordan’s Raiders career is all but over. That much crystallized Tuesday, when he was informed by coach Lane Kiffin in a pre-minicamp meeting that the Raiders intend to move forward without Jordan. “We released LaMont from on-the-field activities,” Kiffin said after the morning practice.
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was the lone player absent from the first day of Oakland’s three-day mandatory minicamp.
Quote of the day: “(He) looks like a cockatoo,” is the way Raiders defensive end Derrick Burgess described defensive coordinator Rob Ryan’s shorn locks.
Visitors to Wednesday morning’s mandatory minicamp practice included Graylon and Cookie McFadden, the father and step mother of Raiders rookie running back Darren McFadden.
