Raider news:
Safety Rashad Baker, who was waived by the Patriots on Tuesday, has been claimed by the Oakland Raiders. A four-year veteran, the 5-foot-10, 198-pound Baker played in seven games for the Patriots this season. He played sparingly on defense, with his primary contributions coming on special teams. The Raiders inherit Baker’s contract which runs through the 2008 season.
Punter Shane Lechler survived returns for touchdowns in each of the last two games and was named to his third Pro Bowl Tuesday. Lechler leads the AFC in gross punting (49.0), net punting (41.0) and has placed 21 kicks inside the 20-yard line with just six touchbacks after a 19-to-19 ratio last season.
Justin Fargas has a right medial collateral ligament sprain that coach Lane Kiffin believes will keep him out of the last two games of the season against Jacksonville and San Diego.
