Position overview: What has happened to the great NFL fullback? Fewer
teams seem to place emphasis on having a top-flight lead blocker in the ranks,
especially in the era of tight salary caps. William Floyd (49ers, 28th overall,
1994) was the last FB to be picked in the first round.
Fullbacks, much like Kickers and Punters, are very important to a team, but typically there is not the need to draft them in the first round. The first round is mainly the “skilled” positions and the interior line. Would you pass up the likes of Reggie Bush, Mario Williams, or Vernon Davis and draft a fullback in the first round? It is the basic supply and demand, and the demand for the fullbacks normally isn’t in the first couple rounds.
Dr U totally agree with you although I definitly would not mind getting another Jon Ritchie in the later rounds. I really like Matt Bernstein from Wisconsin he is clearly a tough nose full back…
